GRAND JUNCTION, Colo (KREX) – On June 9, 2022, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Officer was dispatched to an airplane glider crash located at the Rifle/Garfield County Airport around 5:00 P.M. The piolet of the airplane glider was pronounced deceased in the result of the crash.
The NTSB will investigate the cause of the crash, as is a customary procedure (National Transportation Safety Board). By 9:00 p.m., the location had been secured and all Sheriff personnel had cleared the area.
Following his investigation and notification of next of kin, the Garfield County Coroner will reveal information about the pilot.
The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office would like to express their gratitude to CRFR (Colorado River Fire Rescue) for their quick reaction, as well as administrative officials from the Garfield County Airport who were on the scene following the incident.
