GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — 19-year-old Brian Cohee entered the plea in person, during his arraignment in Mesa County court Thursday (1/6). Prosecutors tell KREX 5 News, they are waiting for results of Cohee’s state hospital evaluation, before setting a trial date. Prosecutors expect the trial to happen sometime between August 1st and August 19th.
Cohee is accused of stabbing 69-year-old Warren Barnes multiple times before beheading him, in March, 2021.
During a hearing in September, an investigator told the court he believed Cohee suffered from mental illness and depression, among other conditions.
