Deadline Looms as Border Security Negotiations Continue

A big week for border security talks, with only days left before Thursday’s deadline to avoid yet another government shutdown.

But so far, negotiations have stalled.

Last month, President Trump signed a short-term spending bill to fund the government without funding his border wall.

Congressional negotiator’s goal was to work out a bipartisan deal before the deadline.

Despite weekend meetings and talks, reports say congressional negotiators on both sides of the aisle are not any closer to reaching an agreement to keep the government open past February 15th.

The latest proposal reportedly puts border wall funding at $2 billion.

That’s far below the $5.7 billion the president requested.

President Trump tweeting on Sunday, saying Democrats are offering very little money for the wall and accusing them of wanting another shutdown for political purposes.

On Monday, he’s heading to the border town of El Paso, Texas for his first campaign rally of the year, no doubt he’ll renew calls for his border wall.
