DELTA, Colo. (KREX) — The two commissioners cited concerns over the potential loss of agricultural land since the solar farm would have covered 472 acres.
The project would have injected roughly $13 million dollars in tax revenues into Delta County’s budget, over the next 15 years.
One county commissioner says it’s the right project, but the wrong location. Wendell Koontz, Delta County Commissioner, says, “the decision to vote no was based mainly on the viability of the long-term agriculture here. They’re proposing to use a flood irrigation system. It requires maintenance either by hand or with a tractor. I just didn’t see how that can be accomplished and still remain ag.”
