Fresno State fires football coach Tim DeRuyter, sources say

Fresno State football coach Tim DeRuyter will not return to the team, according to ESPN.

Athletic director Jim Bartko has announced a noon press conference to discuss the future of the football team and sources tell ESPN the end of the DeRuyter era is the topic.

The Bulldogs are 1-7 this season and 30-30 overall under DeRuyter, although they’re 10-24 in his last 34 games after a 20-6 start.

An assistant coach is likely to take over for the rest of this season and speculation has already begun about who could helm the team in 2017 with Fresno State alumni such as Jeff Tedford, Lane Kiffin and Tim Skipper at the top of the list.

Stay with ABC30 online and on air for live coverage of the press conference and updates throughout the day.
