Mobile outreach teams are visiting US neighborhoods to recruit minority community members for COVID-19 vaccine trials.
The Project Achieve van has come to the New York City borough to speak to locals about COVID-19 vaccine trials.
The aim is to promote the research to minority participants who might not otherwise volunteer for the trials.
A second benefit of coming to neighborhoods like this: the opportunity to answer questions from passers by who may not volunteer for a vaccine trial but are hearing misinformation and conspiracy theories.
Dr. Jorge Soler, Project Achieve co-investigator says, “it’s really critical for us to have a study population that is diverse and representative of the populations that have been most impacted by COVID. So, again that includes Black populations, Latinx populations, older adults, those with underlying conditions.”
