Harmony Acres adds new handicap-accessible facilities

LOMA, Colo. (KREX) – Every day the animals and staff at Harmony Acres enhance the lives of military veterans, individuals with disabilities, and children who experienced trauma or abuse. Now with new facilities on the grounds, visitors to the equestrian center will be more comfortable than ever.

Harmony Acres is home to numerous animals including miniature ponies, alpacas, mules, and draft horses. They have spent the past three years providing unique therapeutic opportunities to many individuals throughout the Grand Valley. The sprawling 24-acre property located in Loma recently added a new building complete with handicap-accessible bathrooms, multiple offices, and a lounge.

Program Director Morgan Kareus explains that while handicap-accessibility is important to all businesses on the Western Slope it is particularly vital to Harmony Acres and their clientele. “We have a number of individuals that we serve that have special needs. And, those special needs are very, very wide in range. So, we made it a priority to make sure we facilities that are dignified enough for our clientele. Privacy and being able to wash-up. Things like that. And also the space to be able to move around safely and comfortably,” said Kareus.

Harmony Acres offers multiple options for those working towards mental health goals, including equine-assisted psychotherapy, therapeutic riding; as well as recreational programs for youth throughout the valley.
