GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Turn your Saturday… into a ‘Caturday!’ Rescued cats and kittens in Mesa County will be the recipients of community support; and it comes in the form of an unconventional fundraiser,
“This yard sale is the first annual yard sale for the Loma Cat House, which is an adoption, rescue, and shelter for felines and kittens,” says Loma Cat House volunteer Marie Mitchell.
The sale will run from 8 AM to 3 PM at 929 N. Main Street, and you may be surprised at what you’ll find,
“We’ve had like 5 to 6 households bring anything you could think of to help, so these are donated items from the community that will be used to sell, and it’s great bargain shopping,” Mitchell continues.
Every purchase you make, big or small, will go towards a cause near and dear to two organizations in the Grand Valley,
“While the promise of affordable and discounted treasures may pull you in – what will keep you at the sale is the cause you’re supporting; all proceeds will go towards the Loma Cat House and Grand Valley Pets Alive,” says KREX5’s Reilly Spence.
Each year, approximately 1.4 million cats are euthanized. These non-profit organizations will use all funds from the sale to provide rescue cats with medical care,
“The funds will be used for neutering and spaying and veterinarian work that we use for those that we rescue that are hurt or disabled in some way,” explains Loma Cat House Director and event organizer Marie Ramstetter.
Loma Cat House says with “kitten season” in full swing, they anticipate many owner surrenders and abandoned kittens, projecting over $20,000 in spay and neuter costs this year just in Mesa County alone; especially since the pandemic,
“COVID shut down the veterinary clinics’ ability to do spay and neuter for several months, and we’re seeing the effects of that; it’s been an explosion of kittens,” says Grand Valley Pets Alive’s Carole Chowen.
If you stop by the sale, remember all purchases will help to cover extraordinary medical expenses for cats to help get them into a loving home.
