GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Mesa County Veteran Services joins the nation this Veteran’s Day, November 11th, to honor and thank our military veterans for their service and send sincere wishes to all who have served our country. Veterans Day celebrates those who served in the military, different from Memorial Day that honors military members who passed during or after service, and Armed Forces Day which celebrates those who are currently serving.
With over 11,000 veterans in Mesa County alone, Mesa County Government supports this community of heroes and their loved ones in many ways; one of which is employing the Mesa County Veteran Service Officer (VSO).
The Mesa County VSO is accredited through the Veteran Affairs Office of General Counsel and offers no-cost assistance to eligible veterans and their families. Some services include disability claims, appeals, pensions, survivor benefits, dependent assistance, and referrals to other veteran agencies that can help with a variety of questions and support. The VSO is housed at the Mesa County Workforce Center and can seamlessly refer veterans and their families to job services, career development or help navigate grants such as VetWorks, that may help with certain job training, education, and/or equipment needed for gainful employment.
As supporters of the veteran community, Mesa County Veterans Services remains committed to helping in every way possible and encompasses the values of the Mesa County Department of Human Services, which are Humanity, Balance, Honesty, Inclusion, and Teamwork. Through these values, Mesa County Veterans Services shows equal respect to each person who contacts us, balanced with knowing each veteran may have had different experiences. Veterans Services is committed to approaching each claim with honesty and integrity, utilizing the network of resources in Mesa County to provide high-quality services that our veterans deserve.
