GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Investigators with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) obtained an arrest warrant for 29-year-old Tyler Sims. On March 24, deputies with the MCSO located Sims on the 400 block of Santee Street. The SWAT team and specially trained deputies were called after the suspect barricaded himself inside the home, which also led to the surrounding homes being told to shelter-in-place as a precaution.
In the end, Sims surrendered to the deputies on scene and was taken into custody. He was taken to the hospital as a precaution before being taken to the Mesa County Detention Facility for booking.
Sims is facing charges of:
• Sexual Assault on a Child
• Three counts of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor
• Three counts of Unlawful Distribution of a Schedule II to a Minor
• Three counts of Child Abuse
The events of his surrender are still under investigation. Additional charges are currently pending.
