In the NBA, the teams that were left out the 22-team play format in the return of the regular season, still want to play. ESPN says the 8 teams, who are not included in the restart want possibly start up a summer league.
One of the reasons, why they may return, is so there players can get back into playing shape, and there is worry, the long lay-off may hinder the progression of many young players, who are on the teams outside looking in. Sources say some of the ideas include having a combination of voluntary and mandatory workouts for two weeks in July. Another notion is to hold regional minicamps in August including joint practices, organized team activities would follow the month. Sources also say those teams want an opportunity for training camps to start seven to 10 days earlier.
