NOAA: May Was Seconds Wettest Month on Record

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says may was the second wettest month in 125 years.

That’s when officials began keeping track.

Taking a longer view, the past 12 month period has been the wettest ever recorded.

The wettest month on record is also a may, set just four years ago in 2015.

And torrential downpours weren’t the only unusually frequent weather last month.

Massive thunderstorms also produced more than 5000 tornadoes.

The three year average is less than half that.
