Northern Ireland Police Makes Arrest in Journalist’s Murder

An arrest and an apology in the death of a journalist in Northern Ireland.

The award-winning LGBT journalist Lyra McKee was standing near police officers during a riot in Londonderry last week when she was shot in the head.

Now, a fifty-seven-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with her death.

A paramilitary group opposed to the Northern Ireland peace deal has admitted responsibility and apologized to McKee’s family and friends.

Politicians from all sides of Northern Ireland sectarian and political divides have condemned this apparently targeted killing of a journalist.
