Notre Dame Prep apologizes for football violations

The president of a Scottsdale preparatory school is apologizing after the school’s football team was banned from the playoffs for improper summer practices and recruiting.

CBS 5 (KPHO-TV) reports (http://bit.ly/2e4X7eY ) that the Arizona Interscholastic Association on Monday placed Notre Dame Preparatory’s football team on probation, making them ineligible for postseason play.

The AIA found the school violated rules by holding practices over the summer in full pads. Association rules state offseason football activities can only be non-contact drills. The association also found the school had violated recruiting rules by holding a football skills camp.

School President Jim Gmelch sent a letter to parents apologizing for the probation and his decision to offer the summer course and program. He did not say if the school would appeal the penalties.
