Population is growing… housing numbers aren't

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Over the last seven years, at least twelve hundred people have moved to mesa county to make it their new home. The problem for newcomers to the grand valley used to be finding work, now, it’s finding housing. Kevin Bray of Bray Real Estate says the Grand Valley doesn’t offer enough housing for two reasons.

“Lack of inventory on the retail side, and also we’re seeing less construction in the first quarter than we did last year,” Bray Real Estate Development Director, Kevin Bray stated.

Along with planned apartment projects, the city of Grand Junction is rewriting city codes to address the lack of affordable housing within city limits.
