GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.
Redlands Rotary Club partnered with Rotary District 5470’s Matching Grant Program contributing over $15,000 for a new 14 passenger bus to the Riverside Educational Center on Friday.
The bus is the 10th addition to the REC’s fleet and will be used to to transport students home at the end of after school programs taking stress of parents and take the kids to field trips. Kristen Lummis with the Riverside Educational Center says, “These buses end of traveling all over Mesa County especially, during the warmer months to the mountains, out to the desert. We really utilize these buses a lot. They put on a lot of miles, and every mile they drive helps kids in our community.”
The Redlands Rotary Club raised over $10,000 and the Rotary District matched $5,000. Fundraiser Chairman, Jeff Wendland says, “Redlands Rotary has dedicated itself to helping kids who need a little extra help.”
The bus donated from the club makes number ten, and REC got another grant for bus number eleven, but there are 15 schools, making one bus for each site ideal to help even more kids.
