Teen farmer makes donation to help injured correctional officers

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) —

The Valley’s youngest farmers are giving more donations to two correctional officers who were shot at the Fresno County jail last month.

Fowler sophomore Gavin Hollins raised this pig named Felicia over the last several months. She’s gone from 70 pounds when he got her in July to almost 260 pounds now.

Gavin originally planned to use the money he raised to help his brother on a car bill or to repay his parents for their investment but Hollins comes from a law enforcement family. So when auction time came around, he had the injured officers, Malama Scanlan and Juanita Davila, on his mind.

“Because law enforcement, we’re all family,” he said. “Somebody goes down, we try to help them as much as we can.”

The highest bidder paid more than $1,800 dollars for Felicia and as Gavin showed her off one last time, Davila sat in the audience alongside two of Scanlan’s daughters.
