The Trump Administration is calling on congress to place limits on student loan borrowing.
Currently, there is a cap on the amount of money an undergraduate college student can borrow from the federal government.
That number is just over 57-thousand dollars over the student’s lifetime.
But no such limit exists for graduate students, as well as parents and guardians of undergrads.
Some critics argue that unlimited borrowing could encourage colleges to hike tuition, and leaves students and others struggling to pay back loans.
A senior White House official says the administration wants to encourage responsible borrowing.
But the official did not give a specific number on what the proposed limit would be.
