President Trump is taking executive action to determine the citizenship status of those inside the U.S.
The move comes as the White House was running out of options after striking out in the Supreme Court.
The justices blocked a citizenship question on the 2020 census, and the move by the white house does not add it.
Instead, the president is instructing government agencies to provide all requested information on citizenship to the Department of Commerce.
During a speech at the white house, President Trump said he was not backing down on the issue.
Also speaking at the white house, attorney general William Barr contends the move will provide the government will key information that will help it function.
