Two conferences to experiment with restricted arc appeals

NCAA has approved an experimental rule allowing the Big Ten and Mid-American conferences to use instant replay on certain plays within the restricted arc for the 2016-17 season. The rule will be the first that allows coaches to initiate instant replay in college basketball.

The rule, which will only be allowed in conference play, can be used when an official believes an incorrect call was made in the restricted or when a coach appeals for a review. A team will lose a timeout if the coach appeals and the call stands.

The rule can only be applied in the last two minutes of regulation or any overtime period. It can only be used to determine whether a defensive player was inside or outside the restricted arc on a block/charge call.
